(RightIsRight.co) – Google’s parent company Alphabet Inc. has barred Truth Social, the social media platform of former President Donald Trump, from the Google Play Store, keeping it unavailable to Android phone users.
Trump created Truth Social as an alternative to mainstream Big Tech social media platforms such as Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, which Alphabet Inc also owns.
All three of these banned POTUS 45 in the wake of the January 6, 2021, protest at the US Capitol in Washington, DC, by pro-Trump protesters.
While Truth Social launched on February 21 in the Apple App Store, it has remained unavailable to Android users because of its absence from the Google Play Store.
Users with Android smartphones make up around 40% of the smartphone market in the United States.
Now a Google spokesperson has confirmed that Truth Social will be kept out of the Google Play Store and has informed that the reason for that is its “insufficient content moderation,” Newsmax has reported.
“On August 19, we notified Truth Social of several violations of standard policies in their current app submission and reiterated that having effective systems for moderating user-generated content is a condition of our terms of service for any app to go live on Google Play,” Google declared in a statement.
It added it had stated its concerns to the management of Trump’s social media platform concerning “physical threats and incitement to violence” it said appear on Truth Social as these violate the Google Play Store policies.
“[We have] continuously worked in good faith with Google to ensure that the Truth Social Android App complies with Google’s policies without compromising our promise to be a haven for free speech,” Trump Media & Technology Group (TMTG), the parent company of Truth Social, declared in reaction.
“Moreover, some of our competitors’ apps are allowed in the Google Play Store despite rampantly violating Google’s prohibition on sexual content and other policies, whereas Truth Social has zero tolerance for sexually explicit content,” TMTG added in its release.
Truth Social has pledged to offer its users an “engaging and censorship-free experience” on crucial topics for today’s America which may be censored on mainstream Big Tech social media – including the fairness, or lack thereof, of the 2020 presidential election.
Trump’s social media platform has restored the social media presence of the 45th President of the United States over a year after he got banned from Twitter, Facebook, and YouTube, which accused him of “inciting violence” with his posts.
