(RightIsRight.co) – As the country braces for Election Day, a new survey revealed that a staggering 79% of Americans are anxious and worried about the election outcomes.
With concerns about election integrity and the nation’s future at an all-time high, citizens are bracing for the potential aftermath of this pivotal moment in America’s democracy.
This widespread unease is not just a fleeting concern but a deep-seated worry that is affecting the mental health of millions.
Nearly 22% of Americans reported negative mental health effects from election coverage alone.
The reasons for this anxiety are multifaceted. Key stressors include navigating the minefield of misinformation (57%), enduring relentless “doom and gloom” messaging (56%), and grave concerns about the election’s aftermath (54%).
Particularly alarming is the impact on younger generations, as a whopping 64% of Gen Z and 54% of millennials report being affected by election anxiety.
Even more concerning, 44% of Gen Zers have postponed major life milestones due to anxiety about the political climate.
According to MK Clarkin, a licensed clinical social worker and executive clinical director at LifeStance Health in St. Louis, Missouri, Some mental health experts refer to political-related anxiety as “election stress disorder.”
This condition is exacerbated by the 24/7 news cycle and social media, with 72% of respondents citing these as major contributors to their anxiety.
Moreover, the anxiety is not limited to one side of the political aisle. About 80% of Democrats and two-thirds of Republicans feel anxious about the election.
The emotional toll of this election cycle is straining personal relationships as well. A shocking 48% of Generation Z voters admit to lying about their voting choices, likely to avoid conflicts with friends and family.
The 2024 presidential election is in less than 24 hours, and with no clear lead for either Kamala Harris or Donald Trump, the tension is palpable.
Trump has aptly described Harris as “a trainwreck who has destroyed everything in her path,” reflecting the frustrations of many conservative voters with the current administration’s policies.
As critical times come to American history, the stakes have never been higher. The anxiety and frustration felt by voters across the nation reflect the importance of this election and the deep-seated concerns about the country’s direction.
