A Gallup report highlights a troubling surge in the inability of US adults to access quality healthcare, with over 91 million people now facing this harsh reality.

The mounting healthcare crisis, driven by federal healthcare spending of $4.9 trillion in 2023, shows a dire disconnect—where is the value for the American taxpayer?

A staggering four in ten adults now carry debt from unpaid medical or dental bills.

Worse yet, over 70 million Americans skip doctor visits due to costs.

This is not the America many older citizens envisioned, and frustrations mount as the government fails to address these mounting costs.

“Healthcare affordability and access continue to erode nationally, and this issue is especially acute among black, Hispanic, and lower-income adults,” Dan Witters, senior researcher at Gallup, said in a news release.

The disparities in healthcare affordability hit Hispanic and black Americans the hardest, with 52% and 46% unable to afford necessary care, respectively.

Among the income brackets, those earning less than $24,000 annually see 64% struggling with healthcare expenses, a true injustice to hard-working Americans.

Key stakeholder Tim Lash of West Health Policy Center stresses the need for policy changes to make healthcare more affordable.

While drugmakers justify rising drug prices as essential for research and development, millions suffer the consequences of this profit-driven system.

“The rising trajectory in the inability to pay for healthcare is a disturbing trend that is likely to continue and even accelerate,” Lash said.

As the gap widens between those who can afford healthcare and those who cannot, the threat of going into medical debt looms large over 60% of Americans.

When will the government act decisively to bridge this chasm, preventing further economic strife for countless families?
