(RightIsRight.co) – American shoppers are again facing a recall that could have significant implications for their kitchen pantries as Walmart has issued a recall for over 12,000 cartons of Great Value chicken broth due to potential packaging issues that may cause spoilage.
Walmart initiated the recall on December 11, with an announcement posted on the FDA’s website in early January this year.
The recall affects 2,023 cases, specifically involving 48-ounce family-sized cartons marked with a best-by date of March 25, 2026, and bearing the UPC code “007874206684.”
Impacted cartons were sold in stores across nine states, including Alabama, Arkansas, Georgia, Louisiana, Missouri, Mississippi, Oklahoma, Tennessee, and Texas.
The decision followed reports of compromised packaging that might jeopardize the sterility of the product, leading to spoilage.
Despite the magnitude of the recall, no illnesses have been reported as being linked to broth consumption.
Still, Walmart has responsibly removed these products from its shelves and is actively collaborating with the supplier for a comprehensive investigation.
The situation underscores the importance of consumer vigilance. Those with these cartons are advised to discard them immediately or return them to the retailer for a full refund.
This incident follows another recent Walmart recall of mislabeled empanadas issued by Tree House Foods Inc. from Oak Brook, British Columbia, raising concerns about quality control standards.
Furthermore, Walmart’s situation parallels a similar case at Aldi, where the Casa Mamita Chicken & Cheese Taquitos were removed due to metal contamination risks.

“The health and safety of our customers is always a top priority,” Walmart said in a statement.
“As soon as we were made aware of the issue, we took action to remove all impacted products from … select, impacted stores. We are continuing to work with the supplier to investigate,” it continued.
Even though the company wanted to downplay the situation by clarifying that consumer safety is a priority, it is questionable why it took a month to notify them about this risk.
