Camping Stoves Pose Explosion and Fire Dangers

The U.S. Consumer Product Safety Commission issued a critical recall on approximately 201,000 dark-green Ozark Trail tabletop camping stoves sold nationwide at Walmart.

The model BG2247A1 stoves, priced between $8 and $45, were distributed from March 2023 through October 2025 and carry serious explosion and fire hazards.

The Taiwan-based manufacturer, China Window Industry Co, has received 26 documented reports of the stoves exploding or catching fire, with 16 incidents resulting in injuries, including second-degree burns.

Defective Helmets Fail to Protect Children

Simultaneously, the CPSC recalled approximately 24,300 children’s helmets from Outdoor Master for noncompliance with critical safety requirements.

Two models—the OM-TD BIKE (blue with dinosaur print) and OM-KSKB (deep green)—were sold online through Amazon.com and Walmart.com from June 2024 through February 2025 for $20 to $32 each. The agency warns these helmets can fail to protect users during crashes, risking potentially fatal head injuries. Fortunately, no injuries have been reported for the helmets to date.

Immediate Action Required for Consumer Safety

Families who purchased these products must act immediately. Consumers should stop using the recalled camping stoves and helmets right away and contact retailers for refunds.

Walmart customers can return the stoves to any Walmart location nationwide or through Walmart.com. For Outdoor Master helmets, customers should contact the manufacturer directly to request a refund. The CPSC assigned recall numbers 26-120 for the camping stoves and 26-122 for the helmets to track these critical safety issues.

Foreign Manufacturing Raises Quality Concerns

The involvement of a Taiwan-based manufacturer in producing defective products sold to American consumers underscores ongoing concerns about supply chain oversight and product quality standards.

When foreign manufacturers fail to meet U.S. safety requirements, American families bear the consequences through injury and financial loss. Retailers must strengthen vetting processes to ensure imported products meet rigorous safety standards before reaching store shelves, protecting consumers from preventable harm.
