GOP U.S. REP QUITS – Last Day Just Weeks Away

Cracked red wall with white letter R.

Representing the end of an era marked by conservative leadership, the forthcoming resignation of a GOP U.S. Representative is set to leave a lasting impact on the party and its politics.

See the tweet and video further down this post.

Veteran Congressman Mark Green (R-TN), who impeached Biden’s open-border DHS chief Mayorkas, postponed his departure specifically to secure this crucial legislation before stepping down on July 20.

The Tennessee Republican, who has represented the state’s 7th District since 2019, made his decision public after casting his final vote for President Trump’s border security legislation, which he proudly called the “One Big Beautiful Bill.”

Green’s departure marks the end of a remarkable political journey that saw him retire once before in 2024, only to return to politics after encouragement from constituents, colleagues, and President Trump.

After winning re-election against Democrat Megan Barry last November, Green has now decided to pursue what he described as “an exciting private sector opportunity.”

The combat veteran and former ER doctor has been a steadfast conservative voice in Congress, serving as the GOP chair of the House Homeland Security Committee since 2023.

His tenure has been marked by unwavering dedication to border security, veterans’ issues, and holding Biden administration officials accountable for their failures.

About his exit, Green posted on X:

“My time here started with a fire to serve veterans, it continued with leading the historic impeachment of a cabinet secretary, and now it ends with achieving real border security. I am grateful my last vote was for the one Big Beautiful Bill.”

Perhaps most notably, Green spearheaded the impeachment effort against former Homeland Security Secretary Alejandro Mayorkas, who was successfully impeached by the House on February 13, 2024.

This historic action against Mayorkas came after years of the Biden administration’s catastrophic border policies that allowed millions of illegal aliens to pour into the country.

Despite announcing his retirement nearly a month ago, Green deliberately extended his time in office to ensure that President Trump’s crucial border security measures would be passed.

In addition to his border security efforts, Green has been urging the Pentagon to investigate a potential link between toxic exposure at Karshi-Khanabad Air Base and illnesses affecting veterans who served there.

As a combat veteran himself, the congressman’s advocacy for those who served has been a consistent priority throughout his congressional career.

Green’s District, which includes Cheatham, Dickson, and parts of Davidson counties, will now await a special election to fill his seat.

As he prepares to leave Washington, Green expressed profound gratitude to his constituents, stating:

“To my constituents across Tennessee’s 7th District—thank you. The trust you put in me is humbling. I will look back fondly on my years of serving as your voice in Washington.”
