Special Counsel’s Statement About Hunter Biden

(RightIsRight.co) – Following Hunter Biden’s recent conviction, Special Counsel David Weiss emphasized that no one in the United States, not even the sitting president’s son, is exempt from the law.

Jurors found the 54-year-old criminal guilty on all three felony counts, which included providing false information to a federally licensed firearms dealer, making a deceptive claim on a federal firearms background check form, and possessing a firearm acquired unlawfully.

For these offenses, Hunter could face a maximum sentence of 25 years in prison and fines of up to $750,000.

Weiss stated at a press conference, “Earlier today, Hunter Biden was convicted of two counts of lying on a form submitted to a federal firearms dealer about his addiction, or use of crack cocaine, and possessing a firearm, while a user or addict.”

“There have been two overarching themes emphasized by the prosecution during trial: this defendant’s illegal choices and the rule of law,” he added.

He asserted that there has been much testimony about the defendant’s abuse of drugs and alcohol, and this case was not just about addiction.

The counsel commented that the case was about the illegal choices the defendant made while in the throes of addiction, his choice to lie on a government form when he bought a gun, and the choice to then possess that gun.

Weiss further emphasized, “No one in this country is above the law. Everyone must be accountable for their actions, even this defendant.”

However, he added that Hunter should be no more accountable than any other citizen convicted of this same conduct, as the prosecution has been and will continue to be committed to this principle and to the principles of federal prosecution in carrying out its responsibilities.

The Special Counsel also clarified that investigations into the president’s son are still ongoing, with the potential for additional trials and investigative work.

Additionally, Hunter faces criminal charges in California related to alleged tax violations, and House Republicans have made a referral to the Department of Justice recommending charges against Hunter Biden for lying to Congress.
