Massive Sausage Recall Due to Metal Contamination

The Department of Agriculture announced a significant recall on Friday, December 19, 2025, involving nearly one ton of holiday kielbasa. This action follows a consumer report of finding a metal strip over 1.25 inches long within the product. Approximately 1,930 pounds of ready-to-eat sausage, produced by Olympia Provisions, are potentially contaminated with metal, according to the agency’s Food Safety and Inspection Service (FSIS).

This discovery was made after a Portland-based company notified FSIS of the complaint. Fortunately, no confirmed injuries related to the recalled products have been reported at this time.

Distribution and Consumer Advisory

The kielbasa was manufactured on October 14 and distributed to retail locations in California, Oregon, and Washington. Additionally, the product was sold nationwide through direct-to-consumer online sales. The recalled items are packaged in 16-ounce vacuum-sealed plastic casings, labeled “OLYMPIA PROVISIONS UNCURED HOLIDAY KIELBASA,” with a “Best If Used By” date of February 19, 2026. The establishment number “EST. 39928” is inside the USDA mark of inspection.

FSIS has advised consumers who believe they may have purchased the affected product to check their refrigerators or freezers. Those who have the product are urged not to consume it and should dispose of it or return it to the place of purchase.

Ensuring Future Safety and Compliance

While no injuries have been reported, this incident highlights the ongoing need for stringent food safety regulations and oversight. The FSIS continues to emphasize the importance of consumer awareness and proper reporting of any food safety concerns.
