Liberals are crying foul while conveniently ignoring a plain truth: Border Czar Tom Homan’s security detail amounts to $1 million monthly due to the dangers he faces.
The Department of Homeland Security has explained this expense by citing “dangerous rhetoric” and numerous threats against Homan, who leads President Donald Trump’s border enforcement efforts.
Due to the danger he faces, Homan’s costs have reached unprecedented levels. He serves as the White House Executive Associate Director of Enforcement and Removal Operations.
More than $500,000 monthly goes toward salaries alone for roughly 30 agents from Homeland Security Investigations providing 24/7 protection.
When including travel expenses, hotel accommodations, and other related costs, the monthly total approaches $1 million.
This extensive security operation includes monitoring at Homan’s home, during his commute to the White House and ICE headquarters, and sometimes involves a four-vehicle motorcade.
State troopers provide additional protection on top of the federal security detail. The level of protection exceeds what many Cabinet-level officials receive, despite Homan not holding Cabinet rank.
DHS officials maintain the security measures are necessary following a formal intelligence threat assessment.
The department points to increased threats and doxxing incidents specifically targeting Homan due to his role in implementing President Trump’s strong immigration enforcement policies.
“DHS ensures our leaders are safe and protected,” stated DHS spokesperson Tricia McLaughlin. “We will continue to take measures to ensure Mr. Homan and his family are safe.”
Homan has become a high-profile target for the radical left due to his effectiveness in carrying out President Trump’s border security agenda.
He is involved in “the largest separation operation in U.S. history,” aimed at stopping illegal immigration and protecting American communities.
Since accepting his position, Homan has reportedly received numerous death threats.
The security expenses fall under the Department of Homeland Security budget.
The Trump administration has proposed increased DHS funding partly to cover these security costs, recognizing the importance of protecting officials who are working to secure America’s borders.
For comparison, former Education Secretary Betsy DeVos’s security detail reportedly cost between $5 million and $12 million annually.
Homan’s projected annual security costs could exceed $12 million, potentially surpassing protection costs for some Cabinet members.
Despite the looming threats, a request for Secret Service protection for Homan during the 2024 election season was reportedly rejected.
The debate over Homan’s security costs highlights the necessary protection of officials implementing essential policies.
While the price tag is substantial, supporters argue that the threats against those enforcing immigration law are real and potentially deadly in today’s increasingly hostile political climate.
